7 quick takes
Friday, January 29, 2010 at 03:51PM I'm going to give this another try.

It's a boy!

I'm thrilled. I love that my little ones will have siblings close in age, and that Jacob will have a brother, and Abigail & Lilly Grace have each other. Jacob will be 22 months when this little one arrives. This is terrifying... Jacob is certainly our wildest one. I don't remember either of the girls climbing the kitchen island at 17 months.

Just finished Donald Miller's A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. Amazing. I'd pull out some of my favorite parts for you, but S has the book along at work. Here's a link to Don's blog. http://donmilleris.com
I liked this as much as I liked Blue Like Jazz, and it was just as timely for me. As S and I talk about moving (our FSBO sign is up), I wonder if swapping one suburb for another will do any good for us. I need a better story than running to Target and Publix all week. Stephen and I are absolutely meant for a better story than this, and though we stand out here w/ our multitude of tiny kids, I always imagined us doing something more. This week I was reading about St. Therese's parents, and it occurred to me that Mme. Martin wasn't living any sort of spectacular story, only raising her children, organizing shopping, cleaning, lessons, running around her small village in search of black tights for Celine's dress, defrosting pork chops, regular Mom stuff. So maybe my problem is bigger than a better story -- maybe my problem is that this IS my story, so I need to live it better. Or maybe there's a call for us of a different kind.

Favorite post today, and hours of fun for our little ones: http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/inspiration/catching-velcro-balls-with-your-headhow-to-106804
This is homeschooling, right? Um, mechanics? Physics? Lilly can calculate the trajectory of the ball... ??

My kids are occasionally easily amused.
Today, I brought along some celery sticks for a snack. Upon opening, Abigail exclaims, "I'm just wild about wild celery!" They repeated this at increasing volume for at least ten minutes, laughing hysterically.

I ordered a St. Brigid book, but in true Rachel style, it will arrive long after St. Brigid's Day is past.
I have excellent intentions, but my execution runs a week or two behind.

This is our current next big plan:

We've spent a few weekends in this community, and I think it'd be a good fit for our family. It isn't Stars Hollow, but quite nearly.

Abigail's current prayer partner is...
Every week-ish, the kids pick prayer "part-en-ers". We choose ours, as well, and we pray with the kids for their prayer partners. (Something really turns me off about this terminology -- it sounds so serious. I usually end up saying "prayer people".) Last week, Lilly chose Snow White. After I blubbered through an attempt to explain that Snow White isn't real, or, isn't alive at the very least, she was quite understandably upset. So I prayed for Snow White. Right out loud. As seriously as I could.
This week, Abigail would like to pray for Jessie from Toy Story.

Such profound words for me to ponder..thanks.
Last year I ordered a book to read during Lent, and it didn't arrive until well afterwards. The store thought I wouldn't want it, but it's on my shelf, and I'll pull it off in a couple of weeks.
